Opinion poll on "TRAI Regulations for unsolicited calls / SMS"

Thinking of life without mobile is like thinking of life without oxygen. No one will deny this statement today as mobile have become an essential artificial external organ of human beings. Mobile & its various services have brought comfort in day to day working of an individual & have reduced the distance across countries & continents.

But everything which comes in this world has advantages along with certain disadvantage. Mobile consumers in India were troubled by the unsolicited calls / sms which every consumer face. People were finding it difficult to overcome this issue of pesky calls disturbing in between some important meetings / discussions. And to add on it the cheap sms packages offered by various service providers was making it possible to deliver so many unwanted sms to people who actually don't need any of them at all.

Todays Chanakya thought to evaluate people's view on this new regulation which has come into effect from 27 September 2011.

Methodology: Today's Chanakya interviewed a random sample of 4875 people across the country in different regional languages. Data were collected to the profile of all adults age 18 + including by age, Sex, Social class, household, work status, literacy level, etc. Special care was taken to make the sample as representative as possible by covering representative area across the states of Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat & Orissa.

Can you imagine life without mobile?

Yes (7%); No (93%);

This really suggests that Mobile have become an essential external artificial organ for human body.

Which was more problematic for you?

Unwanted calls (56%); Unwanted SMS (18%);

Both (21%); Can't say (5%)

People were unhappy with the unwanted calls on their mobile which disturbed them the most.

Telemarketing calls will be started from 140 to identify the origin of call - Is this good move?

Yes (72%); No (15%); Can't say (13%)

This will help the mobile consumer to differentiate calls received on mobile.

Limit of 100 sms per day fine?
